It’s been a while since I mentioned anything about my dabbles in electronic music, but I just wanted to quickly say that my LP “Tracks” (released under the moniker 11t1) is now being hosted by the good folks at Hippocamp:

Song of the Month Club #2: “Coney Island Sideshow Freak Girl”

An exploratory journey into the world of old school country ballads

Here’s a tune I came up with around last Christmas. In the spirit of the season, I was listening to a lot of Tom Waits, finding myself particularly drawn to rootsier ballads, especially “Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night.”

At the same time, I saw an episode of Miami Ink where the gang went to Coney Island to tattoo some of the sideshow performers.

Suffice to say, it didn’t take long before my subconscious started singing the praises of the women in the sideshow in a decidedly Waits-ian manner. Now, I’m no Tom Waits, to say the very least, but I tried to record the song staying as true to the original inspiration as I could.
