Rumours of my busyness have been greatly exaggerated

Anyone who takes my writing to heart will be deeply saddened to learn that I actually haven’t gotten my act together to record those songs I promised to have done for next week. If you are one of these people, you have my deepest sympathies. You also make me wonder what’s wrong with you, but that’s a whole other matter.
Promptly after coming up with my plan to bang out three songs in two months I got sick. Nothing to worry about. If you’ve survived any of the seriously life-threatening maladies that kill people on a regular basis, feel free to look down your nose at me and call me something vulgar (might I suggest “pussy”) for even thinking to complain about a series of strange cold & flu related symptoms that left me feeling simply awful for about a month after Thanksgiving (the real one, not the American one).
During this time, I was in no condition to sing, and in no mood to spend any time in the studio whatsoever. I’m personally of the theory that you should be of sound mind and body when recording because the listener will always assume that that’s the best you could have done when they hear the finished product. Why put out something where you’re under-performing when you can wait a few months and do something much, much better?
Of course, once I got healthy I also became quite busy in my professional life. Such is the nature of freelancing: when it rains, it pours; usually without any advance notice.
But I’ve weathered that storm, and I’m itching to find studio time now. There’s a tune I wrote rather spontaneously the same week I wrote “Do the Reichelt” for the last Song Fu challenge I participated in. My son was watching Sesame Street and they did this segment with fireflies in it. The little guy was quite taken with it and insisted I drop everything and watch it with him. When it was all done, I told him “I like fireflies; their butts glow in the dark!”
You know me, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and before the day was done I had this cute little tune figured out all about fireflies and the way their butts glow in the dark. I’m just now rehearsing guitar parts and hope to have something to share before New Years, provided I don’t spend all my time under the mistletoe this holiday season.
