It’s audience participation time!

Remixing and all that jazz

So, I’ve got an account over at ccMixter now and I’ve just posted my first remix materials for a tune, so I guess it’s time that I say a word or two about what I’m hoping for.

I’m slowly working toward releasing an album, and along the way I’m releasing single tracks here that should be considered very nearly complete demos. When the album comes out, it’ll be very much like the first dozen or so tunes released here but with an audience participation element as well.

Insert yourself into the mix

When I post remix elements, I think it’d be cool if other musicians took it upon themselves to record their own playing/singing and put a bit of themselves into the mix. If the parts recorded are wicked cool, there’s a chance I might be interested in putting them back into the official mix that goes on the final album.

I’d love it if I found some really cool musicians along the way to add live instruments that I can’t play or don’t own. If you think one of my tunes could benefit from your cello/french horn/celesta/gamelan/sousaphone playing, I’d love to hear your take on it.

If you’re interested in getting involved in this way, you will get full credit in liner notes, on the site and anywhere else I can think of.

Put your own stamp on the mix

When the album comes out, I’d also like to put out a companion album; a track-per-track album of remixes.

Let it be known that I have a fairly open mind when it comes to electronic music. I’m one of the few singer/songwriter types who’s actually listened to and enjoyed the work of Autechre and the like, so I’m cool if the remixes go the extra mile of totally messing up my music until it becomes completely unrecognizable.

As with the mix injection, full credit will be given when and where possible.

So, if you’re into it, let’s rock it.
