New Song Fu! Woo-ho!

Will I get a kick at the can this time?

I went to check out who won the Song Fu Challenge last week (surprise, surprise, it was Jonathan Coulton) just to find out the good folks at Quick Stop Entertainment were planning to start another songwriting challenge starting this week!

The sign up was announced to go live yesterday, so eager beaver that I am I set up an Opera window to refresh every frickin’ minute to make sure I didn’t miss it, just in case.

Well, as luck would have it, they didn’t post until after 11 PM, which was still technically within the 24 hour period stipulated but was just too much after the day I had at home yesterday (kids, what are you gonna do?) and the day I knew I was going to have today (clients, what are you gonna do?). I threw in the towel and went to bed about five minutes before the sign up page for this leg of the contest was posted.

Freak that I am, I got up super early today to see if the page had gone live yet (did you know they had a 5:30 in the morning as well?) . I signed up within six hours or so of the page going live, so hopefully I’m good to go.

Apparently the first twenty people people to sign up get a chance to compete in round one, and I’m banking on the fact that most people aren’t as neurotic about these things as I am. Seriously, I was refreshing the page every sixty seconds. I’m nuts, I’ve made my peace with it.

Now the waiting game begins, because they aren’t announcing the 20 finalists until the 12th. I wonder if I’ll still be sane by then.

    I was pretty bad, too.
I stayed up that night until 4:00 AM, then decided on sleeping in one-hour intervals with short periods of checking the website in between. then, during the day, my laptop never left my side until that fateful moment in which I actually got to apply.

I applied within the first 20 minutes, I believe.

If all goes to plan, I’ll be seeing you in the the ring.
    Good luck, fellow Kanuck.

Good luck to you also, Bucket Hat Bobby.

Wow, I thought I was dedicated. That’s hardcore.

Well, I was checking Hourly, not by-the-minute. Heh.
Also, what else am I going to to with my day off, eh?

  4. stv Says:

Just to clarify, I didn’t check myself every minute. I just made sure that the most recent page was there every time I got around to checking, which was only every few minutes (sometimes as long as a half hour).

All in all, it’s time I could’ve invested much more wisely, but if I get in then it was all worth it.

I checked constantly through the day as well, but since I live in Belgium I didn’t get to sign up until when I woke up the next morning, about 4 and a half hours after the registration went open. Hope I am still in the first 20, but I fear for it.

Oh well, if you’re within that time-frame you managed to get in before me.

I’m actually surprised to see just how big this whole thing is. Yesterday I was chatting with one of my sister-in-law’s friends (not a musician as far as I know) and told her how I’d entered a songwriting competition, and she knew all about Song Fu - knew more about it than I did (turns out she’s a big JoCo fan).

  7. Dantes Says:

We both got in (I’m Bram Tant). Good luck to you, Steve!
